«Photography of the 20th century. Ludwig Museum in Cologne «

“The collection of works that I selected at the Ludwig Museum in Cologne in 1996 for the Taschen publishing house in the last few years has turned into a guide to the history of photography of the 20th century. A mixture of world famous names and the names of young ambitious artists, this book is a broad overview development of photography.
On the pages of the book, the reader will come across an amazing number of works that are considered icons of photography of the 20th century. This prompted the museum and the publishing house to focus on precisely such works, which emphasize which treasures have been collected over the past 20 years, mainly from the collections of Hubert, Manz and from the Chergesheimer estate.
The collection covers European and American photography from 1900 to the present day, with special sections dedicated to Cecil Beaton, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bersson, Chergesheimer, William Klein, Irving Penn, Manu Ray, Albert Renger-Patch, Karl Hugo Schmolz , Harold Edgerton, Gertrude Fehr, August Sander, Erich Salomon, Edward Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz. A number of Japanese photographs are presented as works of Kishin Shinoyama and Hiroshi Hamaya. The Ludwig Museum exhibits a number of Russian photographers such as Alexander Rodchenko, Georgy Petrusov and Boris Ignatovich. The collection also contains art photography, represented by the works of Jürgen klauke, Anna Bernhard Johannes Blume, Astrid Klein, Andreas Gursky, Carolina Dlugos,Floris Michael Neusüss, Gottfried Helnwein, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Rudolf Bonvie, Les Krims, Robert Lorca DiCorcia, Thomas lohr and Cindy Sherman. The most significant additions to the collection over the past 20 years include works from the archive owned by Albert Renger-Patch and containing 1000 negatives. A significant part of the work came from the Chergesheimer estate, as well as from the Heinz Held estate, the archive of Eva Sais. Interesting are the portraits of Picasso by Robert Otero, portraits from the collection of Benjamin Katz, the collection of contemporary photography by Uwe Scheid, the work of young Czech photographers, photographs from the German Democratic Republic and up to 2000 photographs from the collection of Renata and L. Fritz Huber. The purpose of this book is to travel through 20th century photography. on the example of one collection «(Reynold Mieselbeck).
The book contains a number of photographs, by which you can find out the genre, style and manner in which each of the photographers takes pictures. The highlights of their work are also described.
The book will help you find your own unique style. Your photos will be recognizable among many contemporary ones. After reading this book, there is a desire to go to the museum and touch the art of photography.
