Leica MDa NASA: The camera that was sold for 500 thousand euros

Posted on

The Leica MDa used in the NASA skylab missions was sold for 500,000 euros and doesn’t even have a viewfinder.

The MDa was designed specifically for the NASA space agency and has been modified for ease of use by astronauts — it has a larger and softer shutter button, as well as larger knobs for better control.

Leica MDa was expected to be sold for 60,000 or 80,000 euros. But no one could have imagined that in fact the camera would have to pay 500,000 euros, especially in the current economic conditions, according to the source.

Also included in the sale with the camera is a Leica Noctilux 50mm F/1.2 lens, which is described as being in «very good condition». Who is the buyer of the camera and why he bought it, the auction does not apply.
